Academic Program Coordinating Committee (APCC)
The Academic Program Coordinating Committee (APCC), established in AY 2021-2022, is a standing committee convened by the Provost with responsibility for reviewing and making recommendations to the Provost regarding academic program proposals. The APCC also makes recommendations on policies and procedures that impact the review and approval of new academic programs in a way that is strategic, efficient, and transparent, to ensure effective use of academic resources on KU campuses and compliance with regulations of federal, university and specialized accreditors.
The APCC reviews academic program proposals that fall into four categories:
- Degrees/Majors
- Certificates
- Minors
- Concentrations
During APCC’s review of the proposal, they will look for and provide guidance on the following:
- Potential collaboration amongst units
- Consideration of redundancy related to programs at KU and KBOR institutions
- Faculty subject matter expertise (research, applied, technical) and resources
- Federal compliance including Regular and Substantiative Interaction (RSI) using engaging instruction and high impact practices
- Quality of program as measured by curricular best practices and comparison to similar programs at peer institutions (if applicable).
Membership/Voting:
The APCC is chaired by the Sr. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs who may cast a vote only to break a tie. One delegate is appointed by each Dean to represent each college/school and the KU Libraries. The University Senate Executive Committee appoints one delegate to represent University Governance. Each delegate has one vote.
Ex-officio, nonvoting members are:
- Chair, University Core Curriculum Committee
- Director of University Assessment
- KUMC Vice Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs (or delegate)
Frequency of Meetings/Quorum:
Meetings are held monthly, August through June, and scheduled for 90 minutes. A simple majority of voting members is required to conduct meetings. The APCC Chair is considered a voting member for the purposes of establishing a quorum. Once a quorum is constituted for a meeting, a simple majority of voting members present at that meeting is required to act on items before the committee.
Documents/Outcomes:
- The APCC will provide feedback and guidance to units on proposals and will forward recommendations to the Provost for review/approval.
- The APCC will make recommendations on policies and procedures that impact the review and approval of new academic programs in a way that is strategic, efficient, and transparent.
